ADS-B is aircraft surveillance technology. ADS-B can determine an aircraft’s position in airspace based upon satellite navigation. The aircraft’s position is periodically broadcasted, enabling it to be tracked. ADS-B Out only broadcasts an aircraft’s position, whereas ADS-B In only identifies an aircraft’s position. ADS-B In and Out is the complete package and can transmit your position as well as pick up that of other aircraft near you. The information can also be received by air traffic control ground stations and act as a replacement for secondary radar.
